Most commodity plastics have carbon and hydrogen as their main component elements. PVC differs by containing chlorine as well (around 57 per cent by weight). This makes PVC compatible with a wide range of other materials, adding to its versatility. The chlorine content also helps to make PVC flame retardant.
PVC polymer is chemically stable, neutral and non-toxic. It is often supplied as an odourless white powder. Since the material is resistant to oxidation and degradation, long-term storage is possible.
Various additives and pigments can be added to PVC during processing, making it adaptable to a wide range of products.
